THE STORY THUS FAR

Prologue: When the Man comes around

We open with a bit of a unique perspective of "In the Beginning", where the covenant between God and Lucifer is made following the devastating War in Heaven. We also discover that tea really is the universal lubricant for all tricky diplomacy issues. From that Genesis, we turn our attention to one Detective Brighton, a dedicated officer of the Houston Police Department, who's arriving on the scene of the aftermath following a fire that's leveled one of Houston's churches.

It quickly becomes apparent that this is no isolated incident, and that Detective Brighton has, in fact, been on a case involving a serial arsonist with a grudge against houses of worship. Or rather, Brighton WAS on the case, as she's been removed in favor of Detective Harris, who would like nothing more than to see Brighton anywhere BUT at this crimescene. Their argument hints at a deeper past, but Brighton quits the scene before their argument comes to possible blows.

Detective Brighton, you see, has intimate experience with this case. So intimate that she's suffered recurring nightmares about it for a year; nightmares that even medication can't seem to erase. On one sleepless night in particular, she decides to go against Harris' orders and follow up on a lead, which brings her to a shady little dive where a certain indie metal band is headlining. Unfortunately for all involved, things spin wildly out of control.

So what do a metal band, a serial arsonist, a weary detective, and God and Lucifer all have in common? Huh. sounds like a really strange riddle... or at least a very bad joke.
